Since its inception 44 years ago, CCAPW has functioned as an entirely volunteer-driven organization with the work led and largely carried out by a committed board of directors. Our current programs and activities include:

Scholarship Awards

For 44 years, CCAPW has awarded a cumulative total of over $350,000 in scholarships to Asian and Pacific Islander women to provide financial assistance to API women residing in Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera, Mariposa, Merced or Tulare counties who are entering, continuing undergraduate, or re-entering students in a college or university. Our target populations are primarily high school graduates and continuing college students from low-income, Asian and Pacific Islander communities throughout the Central Valley. Our past scholarship recipients indicate the majority come from very low-income, Southeast Asian communities and are typically among the first generation in their families to attend college.

Community Education and Outreach

CCAPW conducts community education and outreach through convening various events that bring together not only our diverse membership base, but also members of the local community. CCAPW is intentional in its programming to promote visibility of Asian or Pacific Islander women in leadership positions.

This past year, CCAPW held a mentoring workshop in Fresno under the theme "I Am Enough" where a group of panelists composed of diverse API professional women in the Central Valley came to discuss and offer insights on what it means for them to be enough as Asian women. This event drew more than 60 people eager to be part of this important conversation, to connect with other API women, and to learn and get inspired by the panelists.

In the past, CCAPW has held a workshop in Fresno on API voting patterns and political involvement, highlighting a recent research study conducted by Dr. Jane Junn of USC. This event drew more than 70 people eager to discuss how APIs can play an important role in determining the outcome of elections at all levels.

CCAPW also has held a workshop targeting high school students and their parents on how to gain admission into college. With a panel of speakers representing the Ivy League, the UC system, and the CSU system, this informative workshop was so well-received by the local API community that a second workshop is scheduled.

In addition to convening our own events, CCAPW also actively supports a variety of community efforts, including regularly participating in various statewide women’s and API leadership convenings, the Fresno API Leadership Council, and other API community and cultural events.
